Notary fees and service terms

What you pay, what it covers, and what we need from you. Please read this before booking.

How our fees are built

Delaware sets a maximum of $5.00 per notarial act. That is the fee for the notarization itself, and it is capped by the state.

Everything above that figure is a separate travel and convenience fee for bringing a commissioned notary to you, at a time you choose, with the supplies and the record-keeping the job needs. Delaware does not regulate that fee, and we set it ourselves.

We show you both parts before you book, and neither changes after the appointment without you agreeing to it first.

What we need from you

  • Valid photo ID for every signer. Government issued and unexpired, with a name matching the document. Without it we cannot proceed, and the travel fee still applies.
  • An unsigned document. A notary must witness the signature. A document signed in advance usually cannot be notarized.
  • Every signer present. All parties must attend the same appointment unless you have arranged otherwise with us in advance.
  • Any witnesses your document requires. Some documents need witnesses who are not the notary. Check before the day and tell us if you need us to arrange them.

Cancellations, no-shows and refusals

Cancelling or rescheduling. Let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment and we will move it or refund your deposit in full.

Inside 24 hours. The travel and convenience portion is retained. The $5.00 statutory notarial fee is only ever charged for an act we actually perform.

No-show. If nobody is available at the address at the booked time, we wait 15 minutes and then treat it as a no-show. The deposit is retained.

If we cannot notarize. A notary must refuse where identification is missing or invalid, where a signer does not appear to understand the document, or where the signer appears to be under duress. If that happens the travel fee still applies, because the visit was made, but you are never charged the notarial fee for an act we did not perform.

Payment

A deposit covering the travel and convenience fee is taken when you book. The balance is settled at the appointment once the number of notarial acts is known.

Remote online notarizations are paid in full at booking, through secure checkout.

We also accept money orders, cashier’s checks and personal or business checks made payable to Delaware Mobile Signings.

A notary public verifies identity and witnesses signatures. We are not attorneys, we do not draft documents, and we cannot advise you on what to sign or what a document means. Delaware notarial practice is governed by 29 Del. C. ch. 43.

Questions about our fees

We would rather answer these here than have you wonder about them on the phone.

How much can a notary charge in Delaware?

The notarial act itself is capped by Delaware statute at $5.00. That cap applies to the act, not to travel, waiting or after-hours work, which are separate services and are quoted separately.

If the notary fee is capped at $5.00, why is there a travel fee?

Because the $5.00 pays for the act, and the travel fee pays for the journey. You are not really buying a stamp when you book a mobile notary — you are buying not having to go anywhere. Both figures appear separately on your invoice so you can see exactly which is which.

Is the fee per document or per signature?

Per notarial act. One document needing two signatures notarised is two acts. A package with several notarised documents is several acts. We will tell you the likely count before we set out, and the final count is confirmed at the appointment once we see the documents.

What if you cannot notarise my document?

A notary must refuse where identification is missing or invalid, where a signer does not appear to understand the document, or where someone appears to be under pressure. If that happens the travel fee still applies, because the visit was made — but you are never charged the notarial fee for an act we did not perform.

How do I pay?

Card through secure checkout, or money orders, cashier’s cheques and personal or business cheques made payable to Delaware Mobile Signings.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes. With 24 hours’ notice we will move the appointment or refund your deposit in full. Inside 24 hours the travel portion is retained, and the statutory fee is not charged since no act was performed.
