Refunds and cancellations

We sell professional services, not goods. This page sets out plainly when a fee has been earned and when your money comes back.

The short version

Last updated 26 September 2026.

We provide professional services, not goods, so there is nothing to return. What matters instead is when a fee has been earned and when it has not.

  • Give us 24 hours’ notice and you get your deposit back in full, or we move the appointment.
  • The travel and convenience fee is earned when the journey is made, whether or not a document could be notarized.
  • The $5.00 statutory notarial fee is only ever charged for an act we actually perform.
  • Government fees are not ours to refund once the State has taken them.

If something has gone wrong, call us first

Almost every refund question is settled in one telephone call. Dover desk 302-505-1459.

Cancelling or rescheduling an appointment

When you tell usWhat happens
24 hours or more beforeWe move it to a time that suits you, or refund your deposit in full. Your choice.
Inside 24 hoursThe travel and convenience portion is retained, because the slot can no longer be resold. The statutory notarial fee is not charged, as no act was performed.
No-showIf nobody is available at the address at the booked time we wait 15 minutes, then treat it as a no-show. The deposit is retained.
Remote session, 24 hours or more beforeRefunded in full.
Remote session, inside 24 hoursThe session fee is retained. The statutory notarial fee is not charged.
We cancelRefunded in full, always — including the travel portion. If weather, illness or a scheduling failure on our side means we cannot attend, you are not out of pocket.

When a notary must refuse

A notary is obliged to refuse in certain circumstances, and is not permitted to proceed simply because the signer would prefer it. We must decline where:

  • identification is missing, expired or does not match the document;
  • a signer does not appear to understand what they are signing;
  • a signer appears to be acting under duress or pressure from another person;
  • a required witness is absent, or the document was already signed when we arrived.

Where that happens, the travel fee still applies, because the visit was made — but you are never charged the notarial fee for an act we did not perform. We will tell you exactly what was missing so the appointment can be completed on a second visit.

This is not a judgement about you

A refusal protects you as much as it protects us. A notarization performed improperly can be challenged later, at a far worse moment than a rescheduled appointment.

Government fees we pay on your behalf

Apostille, authentication, good standing, vital record and entity filings all carry fees set by the State of Delaware or a federal agency. We pass these through at cost and itemised separately from our own fee.

Once a government fee has been paid to the State, it is gone. Delaware does not refund a filing or expedite fee because a document was later rejected, because a deadline was missed, or because you changed your mind. We cannot refund what we no longer hold.

Our own service fee is a separate question, and is dealt with under “When we refund in full” below.

Corporate Status Verification

Our $49 Corporate Status Verification is non-refundable once initiated. The work — searching the record and reporting what it shows — is performed whatever the answer turns out to be.

A result showing that an entity is not in good standing is not a failed service. It is the service working: it is precisely the finding that stops you spending several hundred dollars on a filing the State would have rejected. Such a result pauses your order rather than cancelling it, and any fees you have paid toward the wider order stay on account until the entity is restored.

Apostille orders

We guarantee the quality of our own work: that your document is eligible before we submit it, that it is presented correctly, and that it is tracked and returned to you.

We cannot guarantee how a foreign government, consulate, university or employer will treat a document once it is apostilled. Requirements differ by country and change without notice. Where a receiving body imposes a requirement that was not knowable when we filed, that is not a defect in our service — but tell us, and we will help you work out what is now needed.

If we got it wrong — submitted to the wrong office, named the wrong destination country, or missed something we should have caught on review — we correct it at our own cost, including the state fee for the corrected filing.

Registered agent service

When you cancelWhat happens
Before we file the change of agentRefunded in full.
After the change of agent is filedThe annual fee is not refundable. The appointment has been made, the filing fee spent, and our year of representation has begun.
You move to another agent mid-yearWe will not obstruct the transfer and will forward anything that arrives for you in the meantime, but the annual fee already paid is not refunded pro rata.
We resign as your agentRefunded pro rata for the unused months.

Nothing here affects our statutory duty to forward documents served on us while we remain your agent of record.

When we refund in full

Without argument, and without you having to press us:

  • we failed to attend, or attended at the wrong time or place;
  • we made an error that made the work unusable and it cannot be corrected;
  • we charged you for something you did not order, or charged you twice;
  • we quoted you a fee and then billed you more than we quoted;
  • we cancelled on you for any reason.

Refunds go back to the original payment method, normally within five business days. Where a surcharge was applied to a credit card payment, it is refunded in the same proportion as the amount it was calculated on.

How to ask for a refund

Telephone or email, whichever is quicker for you. Tell us the booking reference or invoice number, the date, and what went wrong. You do not need to put it formally.

Before you dispute a charge with your bank

Please contact us first. We would rather refund you directly and immediately than have the question settled slowly by two banks. A dispute helps nobody: it costs us a fee whether or not it succeeds, and it delays your money by weeks.

If a charge is disputed, we respond with the records we keep of every order:

  • your acknowledgment of these terms, recorded at the time of booking;
  • the timestamped booking record, showing what was ordered and when;
  • the record of the notarial act performed, or the reason it could not be;
  • the itemised invoice, showing each fee separately, including any government fee at cost;
  • courier tracking and delivery confirmation where documents were shipped;
  • our correspondence with you about the order.

Why we keep all of that

Not to win arguments. We keep it so that a genuine mistake of ours can be found and fixed quickly — and so that an honest misunderstanding can be answered with a record rather than a recollection.

These terms sit alongside our notary fees and service terms and our privacy policy. Delaware notarial practice is governed by 29 Del. C. ch. 43.
